Good Riddance to Toxins!

 Hand on belly

The body eliminates waste products from the body via the colon, the skin and the lungs.  It’s an extremely important process to rid the body of harmful toxins and allow nutrients to do their job effectively.  Having a healthy liver is vital in breaking down toxins to protect the body from disease and toxin overload which can become stored in the adipose tissue (flabby skin on the tummy!), causing a whole host of serious health issues.

Poor elimination increases risk of:

  • Heart disease
  • Arthritis
  • Diabetes
  • Colitis
  • Diverticulitis
  • Fissures
  • Malignancies
  • Gall bladder disorders
  • Varicose veins
  • Appendicitis
  • Blood clots
  • Cancer

Symptoms of poor elimination:

  • Constipation
  • Diarrhoea
  • Smelly stools
  • Stomach upsets
  • Skin flare ups
  • Grey circles under the eyes
  • Bad breath
  • Colitis
  • Fatigue/run down
  • Food allergies/intolerances
  • Irritability

Foods to include for good elimination:

  • Un-refined whole grains
  • Fruit and vegetables
  • Protein
  • Essential fatty acids
  • Fibre
  • Plenty of water
  • Oily fish

Things to avoid:

  • Refined foods
  • Tea, coffee, and alcohol
  • High amounts of dairy and red meat
  • High amounts of sodium (salt)
  • Trans-fatty acids
  • Smoking
  • Manufactured fruit juices
  • Low fat foods with hidden sugars
  • High levels of certain saturated fats – read this article on how they may not be as unhealthy as always claimed!

AVOID LAXATIVES – they are essentially irritants that upset the delicate colon,

can tire and damage the muscles, and can become addictive

if they enter the bloodstream!

Other techniques helpful to boost elimination:

  • Colon cleanses
  • Liver detoxification programmes
  • Skin brushing
  • Exercise
  • Closed mouth breathing
  • Reflexology
  • Acupuncture

So try starting your day with a good body brush & lemon in

hot water to kick start a healthy elimination!
